4th Of July Fun

Every year we go with Ry's family to the fireworks on July 3rd in Murray/Midvale area. Malia was so excited for fireworks all day she kept jumping up and down every time she heard any kind of noise thinking it was time for fireworks. While we were waiting for them to start, she kept pointing up at the sky every time she saw something in the sky and would gasp really loud and then yell ' Yeah! Fireworks are starting' It was pretty funny! There was also a guy making things out of balloons for kids, so Malia wanted to watch, and then he saw her and made her a little doggy. She was pretty excited about that too!

I wasn't sure how Cole would react since it is his first time...and lately he's been having a hard time with loud noises - like the vacuum...and freaks out! So I thought he might get scared and cry, but he did really well! He just stared with no expression on his face and his jaw dropped open, like always! Just the same stone face he always has! But he wouldn't sit up by himself. He had to lean back on me and was a little stiff - so I think he was a little nervous! He actually fell asleep half-way through the fireworks. He was pretty tired. He usually goes to bed around 7:00, so at 10:30 he just couldn't keep his eyes open anymore!

Then on the 4th, we have the traditional breakfast at the Baumann's house...and last year they built their own slip n' slide that was so much fun, so they did it bigger and better this year! It's so much fun to watch all those crazy boys going down the waterslide. They always have some kind of competition or something to show off! It's hilarious! And this year, they had 2 slip n' slides (one for the little kids and one for the big boys-or big kids!) and they did it while everyone was still at the house so more people were able to be involved in it. Dan chickened out (wuss!) but he was nice and helped Malia warm up every few minutes after she went down the waterslide.

The boys are always entertaining to watch! They always try different poses as they go down, sometimes one at a time, or all at once like in these pics!

Malia got in on the action too! Mostly, the smaller kids would try to run down and would just slip...then slide down (ha ha!) and laugh at themselves doing it. It was pretty cute!

Ryan tried to take Cole down with him once - and he didn't like it a whole lot! He started crying just watching other people go down like it reminded him of going down himself or something! But he liked playing in the little pool of water that formed at the bottom!

Finally, that night we went to the parade in Sandy - since we were up at Ry's parent's house anyway. I had to drag Ryan to the parade...he doesn't like them a whole lot, but it's for the kids not us! But he didn't complain too much and the kids loved it! Cole liked the fire truck and police officers on the motorcycles that always start off the parade. Malia loved the floats with all the pretty princesses and she waved to all of them as they passed! She got really excited when someone would see her and say hi or wave to her personally...it made her grin! It is just fun to watch the kids faces light up like that! So sweet! So anyway...it was a fun day! I also love at the beginning of the parade when a bunch of men in uniform carry a huge flag down the street. I got a little teary-eyed. It just makes me appreciate all of those people (and several of my family members) that are out serving our country. And I love how they play the patriotic songs during fireworks and it seems like if even just for a few minutes, no body cares about stupid politics and can realize that we really are lucky to live in such a wonderful country. Ok, enough cheesy stuff. I hope everyone had a good 4th!

Jen-Sounds like you had a fun holiday...I'm super jealous about your Zion's trip too. I can't wait for my 6 week appointment and I can get the "go" from my Dr. to exercise again. I want to go repelling now!
